Beautiful boot, didn't fit me

I'll start by saying that if these fit you properly, I'm extremely jealous. They're just beautiful. I ordered the Dark Brown, which is a little 'distressed' in the leather, but not badly, it gives the color some character. If you're looking for a high-shine ultra dress boot, this is not that. But for a stunning 'I've-had-these-for-years-and-will-for-many-more' look, yes, these are great. Size-wise, these run a little smaller than many Frye boots -- I'm an 8M in most other brands, but 7.5 in many Fryes, and I needed the 8 in these -- but that 8M was perfect. As for getting your foot past the instep, the strap around the ankle un-buckles and gives extra allowance to get in, if you need it. My fit problem is in the boot shaft; it was too big around for me and looked like I had borrowed someone else's boots. And I have 14 1/2 inch calves, which I think is pretty average (I see a lot of little calves around town). But I'm not sure if these will work on someone with truly athletic calves, since it's the whole boot shaft that's roomy, not just the middle & top. I hope this helps and, since I can't have them, I hope they look great on you!

This purchase alone justifies Amazon Prime.

So I've been coveting these boots for a long time. A long, long time. I've looked for them on a lot of sites, and they are consistently priced well out of my range at $400 a pop. I know Frye products are well made, but they're also expensive. I just figured these were out of reach and resolved to find a similar-looking knockoff.
Enter Amazon. I never thought to look for them here, and I really don't know why. But when I did, it made my week. Not only were they priced about 60% less than what I saw elsewhere, they had the color I wanted and my size. AND they arrived two days later, with free shipping, thanks to the Amazon Prime membership I got to help with Christmas shopping and movie rentals.
When you open the box, it smells like a saddle. (That's a good thing). The leather is beautiful and the boots are comfortable, but I do have a caveat: They are hard to get on at first. Having read other customers' reviews, I took one person's advice and put my feet in socks, then plastic bags, then slipped the boots on. Voila! I am told if you break them in this way by walking around the house, they will eventually pull on easily. They were very comfortable as I wore them around the house, but if you have bigger calves, these probably won't work out, because they do not have a zipper closure. The color is as pictured and will go with just about anything. Might be tough to get boot socks on over jeans, though.
Overall an exceptional value and I'm thrilled.

Don't listen to any of the negative reviews about these boot because they are absolutely gorgeous. I have them in Stone Wash and they're fabulous. The pictures online actually do them no justice at all. In person, they're a beautiful distressed grey colour and after putting the weatherproofing cream, they're a tad darker and look even better. As for sizing, I find they run true, maybe a tad big. I'm a true size 7 (my normal Frye size as I have the Veronica Slouch and James Lace Up) and they're perfect and not tight at all. I might put in my insoles to make them a bit more snug, but otherwise they're great. The calf is nice and tight too, but not too tight. My calf measures about 14" around, and these fit like a glove almost, so word to ladies with larger calves to avail of free returns in case these are too tight. Also, I'm 5'2" and these boots just hit below my knees, which looks great with skinny jeans and dresses. The shaft is a similar height to that of Hunter's tall boots if that helps. Overall I'm extremely satisfied and these are definitely worth it. Even better because they're on sale!
