Beautiful boots!

Beautiful boots! Even though boots are said to stretch after wear, I would say to order at least half size up. Very difficult to get on if they are snug. Calf is also snug and would need to be stretched by a cobbler in order to tuck in skinny jeans etc. I do have muscular calves though... These are absolutely stunning however and the leather is beautiful. I am in love with these but sadly had to return as they were to small - I am normally a 9/10 with very wide feet. Ordered a 9 and would need at least a 9.5 or 10.

By far, my Frye boots are the most well-made shoes I have ever owned. I have spent months searching for well-made black boots that combined style, comfort, and function. Thousands of dollars worth of boots were tried on and returned before I found a pair in the "Goldilocks zone".
Fit
I am 5'10 and a size 2, most "knee high" boots look awkwardly mid-calf, bulky and baggy. I couldn't have imagined that a pull-over boot would give me the "fitted" look I was seeking. The calves are narrow enough to look nice on my body type with legging and a sweater dress, under and over jeans.
Comfort
Yes, these are they type of boots that will need to be broken-in. The leather is workboot quality. After a few weeks, the shoes are still a bit stiff but are starting to mold to my feet. The heel is short and does not cause me low-back pain. The right boot is a bit tighter than the left, but I read that size irregularities are common with Frye boots because actual humans are involved in the crafting process. If the comfort issue with the right boot does not resolve itself I will go to a shoemaker and have them stretched. The breaking in process doesn't bother me because I like the idea of custom fitted boots. It makes me feel special and grown-up.
Style
It is hard to find flat boots with femininity, but I needed something practical for large amounts of city walking. For years, I adhered to the "flat shoes are for quitters" mantra (quote: 30 Rock). It is astounding the amount of pain I can withstand if something makes me feel pretty, but my back problems are now too severe to ignore. Even though they are flat, my Trapunto boots are gorgeous. The toe is pointedly rounded with a hint of a square, without being too rounded, square or pointy. The stitching is beautiful. The finish is not too shiny, and the design is free of gaudy embellishments. I despise brands like Coach who incorporate their logo or brand name into the design scheme. If you make a good product, I'll tell people about it but I am not a f***ing billboard.
Summary
Feminine, durable, with just a little bit of an attitude. If I were on the run from zombies with just the clothes on my back, these would be my shoes.

Received my boots two days ago, returned them for another pair because some of the stitching had come apart (or was missing) on the left side of the boot near the heel. Received my new pair today, and it they are just beautiful. The two pairs of boots did differ somewhat in color from pair to pair -- this pair had more "white stuff" on it. I don't like one pair more than the other; the color variations are great, I wasn't trying to purchase a solid-color boot. Meantime, the "white stuff" rubs off with a little elbow grease (you'll know what I mean by white stuff if you buy any of the "antiqued" colors), and the leather beneath is gorgeous (I purchased the cognac color).
I can understand how some folks might have issues getting their feet in and out if they have high arches; I had minor troubles getting my left foot in the boot, but I expect that when they are broken in, that problem will resolve itself. The leather is very thick and the boots are leather-lined, so the boots stay up and feel substantial. I've read about 120 reviews on these boots between amazon and other sites, and people have complained that the boots look like rainboots, or that the ankles were too big, or that the calves were too big...or too small...as well as numerous other complaints. I am 5'9", my calves are approximately 14", size 9 feet (somewhat wider than average, I believe). I have had none of those problems. The boots look fantastic. I am wearing them right now over skinny jeans and they look like a million bucks. I am fairly certain that if my calves were any larger, my opinion might change. The description says that the boot shaft is 14", and they are not joking. I am thrilled, of course, because many boots are quite large on my legs. These are perfect. I wouldn't expect any less from Frye. Worth every penny, as usual.
