Useful review on sizing and quality

(1) When in doubt, go half a size up.
I'm between a women's size 8 and 8.5, and it was difficult finding useful reviews on how to size these boots.
Finally I decided to just order the 8. I usually went with the smaller size because I have narrow feet. The 8s came, and they were difficult to get on just like all the reviews said. I was experiencing some tightness around the body of the foot (I had ordered a width D (normal women's shoe width)), though most reviews say that it is because the leather was so stiff initially. This was too much discomfort for me because my feet felt numb just sitting with them on in my living room for the first time. So.....
I sent those back and got the 8.5. They were also initially difficult to pull on and a little tight, but definitely not uncomfortable to the point of numbness like the 8s. After 3 or more days of wearing them, they loosened up enough to slip on easily and no discomfort. If you have high arches, you my experience some pressure at the top of the foot where the buckle strap is but you can loosen it up. Very happy with the size. I can wear thin socks and not feel like i'm sliding around, and I have enough room for my wooliest winter socks.
(2) Great quality
I had originally wanted the frye veronica slouch (which are sold for close to $100 more than the engineer). I had ordered them a couple years ago, but was disappointed to find that the leather was really thin, made in Mexico, and the dye was really streaky. Horrible quality so I sent them back.
The Engineer is full grain, waxy leather Made in USA. The color is solid and consistent, and the sole and heel are good tough and oil resistant.
Overall.....LOVE!

After ordering and trying on dozens of boots, looking for the perfect one, I settled on the Frye Engineer 15R. The leather is thick and tough but supple. The toe is not too pointy. The profile is slightly higher and more rugged, making this boot as at home on a motorcycle as with a skirt. The buckle at the top makes it easy for me to adjust these boots to fit my skinny calves, which is why I had to return all of the other boots I tried.
They took about three wears to break in around the ankles, but the footbed was immediately comfortable and they don't chafe anywhere.
I'll rock these until I'm 70.

fit too tight

I ordered my normal 7.5 size in this boot, but the fit is much tighter than my other Frye harness boots. They are almost impossible to put on, especially the mid-foot/arch area. I cannot get my foot past the middle part of the foot. I may try a half size up, as these are just too uncomfortable. The leather is very nice and they look great. Just too tight in the instep.
